Fractons from field to plate

 I will review the recently discovered fractonic phase of matter  which supports excitations of ``fractional mobility''. After presenting a  phenomenological higher rank gauge theory description of fractons, I will show that fractons are hiding in plain sight! I will demonstrate that a day to day familiar phenomenon, one can fold a sheet of paper ``smoothly'' only along a straight line without the creation of additional creases and/or  tears, has a fractonic origin. This will be achieved via a duality between the theory of plates (which models the paper) and a fractonic vector charge tensor gauge theory.
