Low momentum expansion of one loop string amplitudes

I shall discuss the low momentum expansion of the four graviton amplitude in maximally supersymmetric string theory, which leads to local terms in the effective action. This is obtained by integrating certain modular graph functions over the fundamental domain of SL(2,Z). I shall also discuss new issues that arise for the five graviton amplitude.
