Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld gravity

Since 2010, following a paper by Banados and Ferreira, a new modified theory of gravity has generated some interest among researchers in gravitational physics. Historically, this theory has its origins in some early work by Eddington and in Born-Infeld electrodynamics. Hence it has been named `Eddington-inspired Born-Infeld (EiBI) gravity'. In this talk we will present an overview of the theory of EiBI gravity and its applications in cosmology and astrophysics. Towards the end of the talk, some of our own work in this context, will be briefly discussed.
