Najmul Haque (Theory Division) wins Outstanding Student Award from HBNI

Dr. Najmul Haque, a student of the Theory Division of SINP has received the prestigious Outstanding Student Award for his thesis entitled “Some Applications of Hard Thermal Loop Perturbation Theory in Quark Gluon Plasma” from the Homi Bhabha National Institute (HBNI), Mumbai.

Dr. Haque has completed his doctoral degree from the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics under the guidance of Prof. Munshi Golam Mustafa. During his PhD tenure, he mainly computed various thermodynamics properties of Quark Gluon Plasma (QGP). QGP is a new state of matter which is believed to be produced at very high temperature (~10^12 K) and/or very high density density (> 5 times of normal nuclear matter). At that high temperature/density, quarks and gluons no longer remain confined within nucleus; they become deconfined and produce Quark Gluon Plasma. Previously, the thermodynamic properties of Quark Gluon Plasma at finite temperature have been studied. But at finite temperature and moderate density, there were no proper systematic computation of the various thermodynamical properties. In his Ph.D thesis, Najmul has computed several thermodynamical properties of QGP at finite temperature and finite density.

Dr. Najmul Haque currently is a post doctoral fellow at the Kent State University (USA) in Prof. Michael Strickland's group. He has also been selected for Humboldt Post Doctoral fellowship in July, 2015.
