Discovering particles

I will discuss the history of the development of Particle Physics, emphasizing the physical principles that necessitates the use of high energy particles and the basic working principles of the machines that are used in the searches. I will start from the discovery of the electron, and will work my way up to the Large Hadronic Collider at CERN, which is the machine with highest available energies.
