Autophagy - when the cell decides to attempt suicide

The Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine 2016 was awarded to Yoshinori Ohsumi "for his discoveries of mechanisms for autophagy". In this talk I'll discuss the basic mechanism of this important cellular event, highlighting the experiments done by Prof Ohsumi. The importance of this discovery, from the perspective of complex human diseases will also be discussed. A glimpse of works done on the field from our institute will be given at the end.
