In the last two decades a series of international conferences on Statistical Physics, have been organized in Kolkata (previously Calcutta) at roughly three-year intervals, first held in 1992-93. These have come to be known as the STATPHYS - KOLKATA conferences. Every time some topics of current interests were the main themes of the conference, apart from the general discussions on Statistical Physics.
This year STATPHYS - KOLKATA conference is going to be held between 26th and 30th November, 2010. This meeting is being organized as a part of the Silver Jubilee Celebration of the Satyendra Nath Bose National Centre for Basic Sciences, Kolkata in collaboration with the Saha Institute of Nuclear Physics, Kolkata. In keeping with the tradition, faculty and researchers of several Universities and Institutes in Kolkata are actively participating to help in organizing the seventh conference of this series.
The meeting will be on Statistical Physics in general with special emphasis on:
- Collective behavior and emergent phenomena
- Systems far from equilibrium
- Soft matter
- Quantum critical phenomena
